Pip Value Calculator

Find out what one pip is worth for any lot size, instrument and account currency. The first number every trader needs before sizing a position.

Calculate pip value

Choose an instrument and lot size, then press Calculate to see the pip value.

Why pip value matters

Pip value is the bridge between chart distance and real money. A 30-pip stop on EURUSD with a standard lot risks about USD 300.00; the same 30 pips on a micro lot risks about USD 3.00. You cannot size a trade safely without knowing this number first.

The formula is: pip size × contract size × lots × conversion rate. For most forex majors the pip is 0.0001 and one standard lot is 100,000 units, giving roughly USD 10.00 per pip.

Pip value FAQ

What is a pip in forex?

A pip is the smallest standard price move for most forex pairs — usually 0.0001 (or 0.01 for JPY pairs). It is the unit traders use to measure stop-loss distances, target distances and profit/loss.

How much is one pip worth?

Pip value depends on the instrument, the lot size and your account currency. For one standard lot of EURUSD, one pip is roughly $10. For one mini lot it is about $1, and for one micro lot about $0.10.

What is a pipette?

A pipette is one-tenth of a pip — the fifth decimal place for most pairs, or the third decimal place for JPY pairs. Some brokers quote prices in pipettes to give tighter spreads.

How is pip value different for gold (XAUUSD)?

Gold is quoted to two decimal places and one standard lot is 100 ounces. A 0.01 move on XAUUSD is one pip and is worth about $1 per standard lot, much smaller than a forex pip in absolute terms.

Does pip value change with leverage?

No. Leverage changes how much margin you need to open a position, not how much each pip move is worth. Pip value is determined by lot size and contract size.

What about indices and crypto?

For indices one point usually equals one pip. For crypto the smallest quoted unit is treated as one pip. This calculator uses standard contract sizes for each asset class.
