Psychology & Plan
Trading plan
A one-page written document defining your markets, hours, setup, risk, exits, routine and review — decided before money is at stake.
In practice
A plan reads: 'Trade EUR/USD and XAUUSD 8–11am Dubai time. Enter only confirmed engulfing candles at support/resistance. Risk 1% per trade, 1:2 R minimum. Flat before NFP. Review Friday 4pm.' Every decision is made in advance, so live trading becomes execution, not debate.
Why it matters for traders
A written plan removes decisions from the heat of the moment, when fear and greed are loudest, and replaces them with rules you chose calmly. Traders without a plan improvise, and improvisation under pressure reliably produces oversized losses and broken discipline — the plan is what makes trading a business rather than a gamble.
Common pitfall
The pitfall is writing an elaborate plan and then abandoning it the moment a live trade gets emotional — which is exactly when the plan matters most. A plan you don't follow is decoration. Also common is a plan too vague to follow ('trade good setups') or so complex it can't be executed. Keep it specific, one page, and score your rule adherence each week; an unfollowed plan is worse than none, because it hides the real problem.
Putting it in context
Most trading failure is psychological rather than analytical, which is why this idea deserves more attention than beginners usually give it. The mind that calmly reads a chart on a Sunday is not the same mind that watches a live position move against it on a Tuesday, and the gap between the two is where accounts are lost. The reliable defence is to convert decisions into rules made in advance, in writing, and to review your own behaviour as systematically as you review the market. Keep notes on what you felt during trades, not just what you did; after a month, the patterns in your emotions will be as readable as any chart pattern, and far more valuable to fix.
